For years, families have made lasting memories during their summer getaways at the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien, in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Since it first opened more than 60 years ago, the zoo has constantly improved its facilities and equipment to ensure its animal residents are as comfortable as possible. That’s why the zoo decided to focus on boreal species and those adapted to the harsh northern climate. Today, the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien is home to more than 400 animals of 75 different species and features 4.5 kilometres of walking trails, where you can observe the animals and learn more about them.

The stars of the site

Zoos are always invested in welcoming new residents. Among the latest arrivals are the Amur tigers. Previously known as the Siberian tiger, this species has been renamed to better reflect its current natural habitat: the region bordering the Amur River in Asia. In addition to the tiger, another exciting new resident is the red panda, also called the lesser panda. These pandas resemble a slim raccoon with autumn-coloured fur, and their playful appearance gives them a somewhat mischievous look.

Are you as skillful as they are?

The zoo’s passionate team is always eager to show off the animals in all their glory. That’s why the activities on site not only fuel the imagination of budding zoologists, but also provide tons of information about the animal residents. The June lineup has “water” as a common theme, and so includes a reptile and amphibian exhibition, and a variety of water-based activities. Themed workshops and lectures will be held on Mondays, while special discovery activities led by naturalist guides will take place on Fridays. Don’t forget to check out the animals’ feeding schedule! You can also download an app to complete Les Défis Sauvages, a series of wilderness challenges that compare your skills to those of the animals through various logic, observation and motor skills games!
